Blå Fjell in Norwegian means Blue Mountains. What a perfect name!
Sons of Norway is a fraternal benefit society founded and based in Minneapolis with lodges in the United States, Canada, and Norway. The Sons of Norway is made up of over 60,000 Norwegian and Norwegian-American men and women and more than 8,500 "unge venner" (young friends) youth members organized into 400 Lodges in 8 Districts in the United States, Canada and Norway. The mission of Sons of Norway is to promote and preserve the heritage and culture of Norway and the other Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden and to provide quality insurance and financial products to its members. Blåfjell Lodge No. 3-646 is one of the more than 400 local lodges, who, along with the International Headquarters, work to meet the cultural, heritage, and financial needs of our members. Cultural and Social Meetings are usually held at at College Lutheran Church, 210 South College Ave, Salem, VA 24153, on the fourth Saturday from 1:00-3:00 pm every month except August. For details and exceptions, please visit our calendar or events for more information. Our Blåfjell Lodge was started by Wally and Lilla Post in May, 1996. There were 55 charter members. The Blåfjell lodge provides a cultural, social and ethnic setting for Scandinavians in the South Western region of Virginia. We have members and participants from a wide ranging area including: Blacksburg, Roanoke, Vinton, Lexington, Farmville, Lynchburg, Bedford, South Boston, Smith Mountain Lake, North Carolina and South Carolina.
